Dead Rising 2. What to expect.

Being released September 24th is Dead Rising 2. The zombie apocalypse sequel to Dead Rising. Famed for giving you the ability to use anything against the zombie’s, Dead Rising was a commercial success. So what changes can we expect in the sequel?

To start with Dead Rising 2 gives the gamer a new Protagonist and a new setting to play with. This time playing as Chuck Greene, 2 years after the original Dead Rising, in Fortune City, a City modelled after Las Vegas. Chuck Greene is a former national motocross champion as opposed to the photojournalist Frank West from the first game.

Dead Rising’s great selling point was the fact that you could use anything as a weapon. It was even set in a Mall to help you do this. Now in the sequel there is even more weapons that you can use, aswell as more zombies on the screen at any one time to use them on. Whilst on the subject of more, there is also an even larger amount of missions to play in Dead Rising 2 in contrast to its predecessor.

Players of the original will remember the photography mechanic which allowed you to improve Frank. This time around Capcom have removed that mechanic and instead the game will now give you multiple opportunities to create your own weapon such as the “Paddlesaw”, a Kayak paddle with a chainsaw attached to each end, which is shown on the game’s box art and in numerous trailers.

I hope this Zombie likes Rock.

One thing that may have disappointed players of Dead Rising was the fact that it was entirely Single Player. Now, in Dead Rising 2, there is Multiplayer and lucky us that’s of both the competitive and co-operative variety. So you can not only kill zombies how you like but with who you like. The competitive mode takes place in a Reality TV show where up to 4 players compete to kill the most zombies with numerous crazy weapons, including giant Hamster balls. The co-operative mode is online only however. Sorry guys without a working internet connection. (Not that you can read this if this is the case) Basically in the co-op mode you just get an online friend to help you continue in your own game. Your friend will get to keep anything he gains, but the save file will only be kept by the host (player 1).

That’s about all you need to know about September 24th’s release of Dead Rising 2 (28th for PC gamers). I hope you now know what you needed to decide whether or not to pickup this game.
