DJ Hero 2. What to expect.

DJ Hero 2, the sequel of the surprisingly successful and very fun music rhythm game, DJ Hero (never!) is being released next month. What’s changed and what’s remained the same this time round?

Well the hardware is the same, so no new buttons to press however the gameplay has still changed. The freestyle samples that you have the option to play through the mixes are now sections of one of the songs making up the mix. No longer will you be penalised for small variations in the fast-scratching sections either, so long as it is indeed small and doesn’t stray from the beat of the mix. The Freestyle Sections are now less limited also as you can now mix and scratch freely between the two songs in the mix. You can now also Sing or Rap along with the mix as FreeStyleGames have added mic functionality. Sadly though, for all you Guitar Hero enthusiasts who loved the ability to use that plastic guitar of yours in the first, the Guitar functionality has been removed.

Those who played the first installment in DJ Hero will remember that it was a rather unstructured. Now FreeStyleGames have added in the “Empire” mode, which provides a lot more structure than DJ Hero used to have. DJ Hero has added Guitar Hero 5’s “Party Play” mode also, allowing more multiplayer and Drop-In Drop-Out gameplay. There are also multiple new competitive Multiplayer modes.

The Soundtrack is a lot more varied whilst still strongly representing the hip-hop genre and Songs used in the mixes within the game include “The Day that Never Comes” by Metallica and “Bad Romance” by Lady GaGa.

Last thing you really need to know is the release date. For UK players we can expect to see DJ Hero 2 hit the stores October 22nd.
