Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. What to Expect.

Nintendo are bringing back a bunch of old franchises this winter, and Golden Sun is one of them. With a brand new DS game, what is there to expect from Golden Sun: Dark Dawn?

Golden Sun is back after a seven year wait, and now 30 years later in the game’s universe the plot has changed quite a bit. Entire continents of the Golden Sun world have moved, following the immense power of the Golden Sun being allowed back into the world. New countries have emerged and new species have appeared. And with all this new, obviously there had to be a new threat to go with it. Psynergy Vortexes are rushing through the world, sucking away the elemental Psynergy from the land and power-wielding adepts.

The game’s core team of characters is made up of the sons and daughters of the previous two games’ heroes. Characters from the original games including Isaac, Garet and Kraden return, some of which are playable at certain points. The characters are as follows.

  • Matthew is a Venus Adept, the son of Isaac and Jenna, and the game’s main protagonist.
  • Tyrell is a Mars Adept like his father, Garet.
  • Karis is a female Jupiter Adept and daughter of Ivan.
  • Rief is a male Mercury Adept, son of Mia.
  • Himi, a priestess of Yamatai and a female Venus Adept who possesses the power of prophecy that she inherited from her mother, Kushinada.
  • Eoleo, a Mars Adept, son of Briggs and the new leader of Champa, now a pirate kingdom.
  • Sveta, a female Jupiter Adept and member of the new human beast race that has mutated since the Golden Sun Effect. Excelling in the 5 senses, she can read the minds of her company and sense unique smells, and is able to use visualized Psynergy.
  • Amiti is a male Mercury Adept and a prince of the water kingdom Ayatayu.

Antagonists include three new characters called Blados, Chalis, and Arcanus who are members of a clandestine group. There are 83 Djinn referenced in the game, however, you can only make use of 72. While some of the Djinn return from the original series, many are brand new. All Djinn now have a distinct look.

That’s it for this, very short, what to expect. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is due for release December 10th on the Nintendo DS.
