Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. What to Expect.

Kingdom Hearts is a rather popular RPG series from Square Enix. Fans of the series will know of a game called Kingdom Hearts Coded. Well, Re:coded is a remake of this episodic game in the series for the Nintendo DS. However we are getting the game in the EU this time. So what can we Europeans expect from Kingdom Hearts Re:coded?

As I’ve already said, this game isn’t technically new, but it is to our lovely UK so I’d best get explaining it to you. As far as story goes, it’s no different to Kingdom Hearts Coded’s, but for those who don’t know, here is how it starts. Jiminy Cricket is organising records of his adventures with Sora and Co when he discovers something he didn’t write. The records are in his journal, so it’s quite a curious thing to happen. “Their hurting will be mended when you return to end it.” Is the message. To investigate it, King Mickey digitizes the contents of the journal and goes into the simulated world to investigate. In doing so he awakens a virtual Sora on the virtual Destiny Islands to carry out the contents of the journal and uncover the identity of the people mentioned in the message. I won’t continue much more because I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn’t played Coded. I will however include that Re:coded has a secret ending, so if you somehow played coded, you still have a reason to invest in Re:coded.

Re:coded’s gameplay is different to Coded’s. It combines the gameplay elements from Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, and Coded. Making use of the leveling system from 358/2 Days, which has been simplified in an attempt to appeal more the “casual gamer”. As Coded wasn’t released in the EU or USA, I should maybe mention how it works to give you a better idea of Re:coded’s. Coded was a puzzle game using action game elements in the gameplay, this action gameplay being similar to the action-RPG style of the earlier games in the series.

And so now you have a quick idea of What to Expect in Kingdom Hearts Re:coded. It will be released in the UK on January 14th 2011 for the Nintendo DS.

[Edit: Sorry for not including much detail, most of the information I could find was about the Story and contained Spoilers, which I’m sure most people won’t want.]
